๐ HELP / HECS – Study and Training Support Loan (STSL) repayments
Customers with a Study and Training Support Loan (STSL) may now have their STSL repayments excluded from serviceability calculations, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
Effective Monday 24th November.
๐งพ What you need to do
โจ Enter relevant information on the commitment into the Broker Serviceability Calculator to determine if the repayment period meets eligibility.
โจ Check your customer meets the following eligibility criteria and record in AOL:
• They must not be currently studying and adding to their STSL debt
• Their current STSL debt will be fully repaid within 12 months from application submission
โจ Collect an STSL loan statement from the customer (via ATO or MyGov).
๐ฆ SMSF Serviceability
โจ No self-employed time-in-employment requirement for SMSF entities (including Corporate Trustees).
โจ Reduced verification when SMSF income isn’t used. Only required:
• Super Fund Lookup search
• Contribution details
โจ Simplified verification when SMSF income is used (latest tax return or audited financials).
โจ Applies to all PAYG or self-employed customers who hold an SMSF.
โจ Include SMSF details in AOL notes to avoid MIRs.
โจ Time-in-employment rules & SSC no longer required for SMSF entities.
โจ When using SMSF income or contributions in servicing → obtain latest tax return or audited statements.
๐ฆ Self-employed – non-operating entities
โจ Customers may now provide a declaration confirming non-operating entities.
An entity is “operating” if it has:
• Income or turnover
• Expenses
• Liabilities
โจ Identify all entities (including those shown on Access Seeker).
โจ Confirm which entities are operating vs non-operating.
โจ Document non-operating declarations in Broker Notes.
โจ Enter all entities into AOL for correct processing.
๐๏ธ Construction Loans – Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme
โจ Maximum loan term increased from 28 → 30 years.
โจ 30-year term now selectable in AOL.

Acceptable Securities:
